When God Calls

Jesus said: My food is to do what God wants! He is the one who sent me, and I must finish the work that he gave me to do. You may say that there are still four months until harvest time. But I tell you to look, and you will see that the fields are ripe and ready to harvest. Even now the harvest workers are receiving their reward by gathering a harvest that brings eternal life. Then everyone who planted the seed and everyone who harvests the crop will celebrate together. So the saying proves true, “Some plant the seed, and others harvest the crop.” I am sending you to harvest crops in fields where others have done all the hard work.  John 4:34-38

I heard the story of a young missionary called to minister in a village located in a particularly hostile area of India.  The missionary, accompanied by another missionary were sent to the village with the blessing of their Church Mission.

Their first night in the village, a group of men broke into their home and attacked the missionaries.  They beat the men and held them up by their feet.  They told them that if they did not leave immediately they would return and kill both of them.

They left the village that same night.  The following day the young missionary shared with his Director that he felt heavyhearted.  The Mission Director asked him, “Did God call you to this village?”  The young missionary answered “Yes.”  The Director then asked, “Why are you here.”

A few years later, the Mission Director was invited to the dedication of the young missionary’s 40 member village church.  The church leadership was comprised of the same men who visited the missionaries the first night.

Have you ever felt the Holy Spirit tugging at your heart?  Has your heart ever broken over the need in a certain community?  Have you pondered the idea of going there to share the Gospel?

Bob Pierce once prayed, “Let my heart be broken with the things that break God’s heart,” and World Vision was birthed.  God will always open doors, clear paths and provide for all needs of those He has called to a particular work.

If God is calling you to go; then go.
