Overview of Classes
Champion of Faith is a 7 Step training process consisting of 5 classes and 2 retreats. The entire process involves two retreats that we call Encounters. Along with the Encounters, the COF process entails a progression of various subjects that range from biblical and theological studies to teachings on family, leadership and evangelism. The COF process provides spiritual formation and practical application that help the student understand the truth of who they are in Christ, what Christ has done for them, and what they have been called to do. Each step in the process presents the believer with new challenges. While the first set of classes are basic and easy to grasp, they still motivate the new convert and all believers to draw close to God by realizing who they are in Christ and finding freedom through Christ’s forgiveness of sins.
In steps 1-3 the student will grow in their understanding of what it means to follow Christ. These steps assist the student to move from the ordinary to the extraordinary in their spiritual walk. In Step 3 they also learn what it means to walk in freedom, freedom from sin, freedom from the world, freedom in forgiveness and freedom from those who have hurt them. The emphasis in Step 3 is to prepare the student to live out their faith and be able to share that faith in the day-to-day context in which they live.
Step 4 focuses on instruction in the principles of our faith through classes that teach biblical and systematic truths found in scripture. It is this knowledge that empowers students to be able to stand on the foundation of the Word and better prepare them to live as members of the family of Christ. In addition, the focus of the second hour of Step 4 is entirely on the family. Through each lesson of Step 4 the student discovers God’s plan for the family and how that plan relates to every member of the family.
The Leadership training aspect of Champion of Faith begins in the last three steps of the COF process. Steps 5-7 provide each student a deeper understanding of the fact that they are not only members of the body of Christ but that they too are also called to serve within the body of Christ. More specifically, they will better understand the vision and mission of the church, the importance of the cell ministry in completing that purpose, and how they are vital to fulfilling that vision. In steps 5-7 participants are trained in important aspects of leadership and are directly equipped for cell leadership. Students are prepared to evangelize the lost, to reach their community and to disciple new Christians. These classes also require the student to enter into a mentoring relationship and learn through experience how to mentor others. Mentoring is a key cell leadership component that enables the cell leader to lead members of their cell in such a way that their cell members will one day become leaders of others. In this way the Champion of Faith process and the T.C. Cell Ministry compliment each other and function together to accomplish the goal to evangelize, train, and commission all believers at Templo Calvario to fulfill the Great Commission – “to go and make disciples.”
